PROJECT 02
STRUCTURE AND BODY : MATERIALS, ANTHROPOMETRIC AND ERGONOMIC EXPLORATION
Project 2 will have you go on a journey to answer all the questions. Students will be working with several materials to understand the nature and characteristics of these materials and how it is to be used in your design. Students are to design a structure for self-isolation and to show your personal behavior during this pandemic period. They will explore construction details, joinery, and structural quality and how the selected materials work together. The next step is to amalgamate the design intention (choose from Project 1) with anthropometry and ergonomics to form the structure.
DESIGN NARRATION
The pandemic quite surely brought out an overwhelming gush of various emotions for most of us. The idle lifestyle led us to a more frequent acknowledgement of our own thoughts and feelings in contrast to our prior "busy life". This sudden acknowledgement happening quite frequently within a day may result in feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. The Reflection Dome, being a space of a very minimalistic aesthetic, aids in diminishing feelings of overwhelm and anxiety to feel more calm in order to organize your thoughts and feelings. The colorful reflection, instills hope of a colorful world within reach despite confinement.
SELF-REFLECTION
This project allowed me to explore greatly on joinery details as we were encouraged by the lecturers to avoid adhesives. Although this was quite a challenging project, it allowed me to express my emotions experienced during isolation through design. Furthermore, I was able to identify my weak points and thus work harder to improve my architectural drawings for the next project with the helpful feedback I received from Ms Rai during the review.
